I know that this is a different stick as discussed in other posts but now I have to use a walking stick all the time now, I was wondering if there are any defence
moves etc that are available??  Any info or suggestions??
Cheers.  Grin

Absolutely, there are specific brutal uses for a curved handle cane. you can search BO or JO defense. I believe the JO is the short stick.

You may also try finding a FMA school that can show you the defensive and offensive use of the cane and blade. Either as separate units or in conjunction a la long and short method.

Where are you located? I may know someone in your area or one of my contact may have a suggestion as well.

Take care,

Rudy Franco

PS Japanese Jo Jutsu (short stick) training usually found in conjunction with Aikido or Jujutsu schools  takes quite a while to become proficient but once you understand the principles it is quite effective. Filipino methods are a bit quicker in applications, if you have a qualified instructor. (These are personal opinions based on my own training)

I use a walking stick to probe for snakes and such...they can be used in defense or offense......one to name a few is to push it under someones arm between the ribs and arm and levering them with the other side which almost always takes them to a high pain awareness and then the ground!!

Hi Guys. Just catching up on the replies.  Im located in the Bristol area of the UK so Im going to check out the martial art classified for any info but any contacts you may aso have would be appreciated.
I have found a PDA book from a police officer I think in India in the early 1900s.  He wrote an instruction manual believe it or not.  Havent had time to read it yet but Ill get back to you on that!

Walking stick, sibat, cane..what ever one chooses to call it...they are all good..and there is a plethora of practical/tactical usage available....everything from thrusting to hooking, trapping and bashing...blocking and parrying 9there is a difference)....find a good instructor who keeps it simple and take the knowledge gven to you personal laboratory and make it work for you.

Just type in Goju Shorei Weapons in your search bar, and you will find a great system for canes, knives, and such. Pops studied it for a while he liked it a lot.

true here, but aikido is a sword form in true form. Each move can be done with a jo or yourself.

But, as the man said, it can be very effective when you are diligent about training.

I carry a jo when i go walking, and have been stopped by police many times. Check your local areas about carrying one. just because you say i is a walking stick, doesnt mean they cannot book you for a weapon.
