Went out this morning to check some snares, Nothing yet. But did get some stalking in. Took my Longbow along and managed to bag this squirrel.

He saw me coming and tried to run, but my arrow got to him first. He was still breathing when he fell outta the tree, so i used the Raven to dispatch him quickly as i only brought the one arrow and that was already in him. I used a low grip and loped the head right off on the first swing like it was butter......I couldn't believe how smooth the cut was......

I keep getting sold on this knife...DAILY.  Hope to show some pic's of a successful snare (raccoon) but we shall see. Mean while ......I'm off to the woods for a scout.

Norsk,

You better belive it my friend. We just got back from our scout( my bro and I) and spit it and ate it out there. Take alittle olive oil in your kit with some BBQ sauce, and you are in the good stuff. Freeze it before you go and by the time it's lunch time, 3 hours later, it's ready to go. Found some excellent sign for this season (deer) I am very hopefull for success. Got three last season, and have just finished the meat.

Tomorrow I will be setting some deadfalls and snares to see what we can yield. I'll keep ya posted.

Ronin,

I am a bowhunter....At least that is what i would say if i had to define myself, Trad bow all the way. It is a wonderful thing to go out in the morning and provide food with hard earned skills. Love it.

I understand about keeping people fed with the tools at hand.

It makes me mad when people say they hate gamey meat, it just boils my blood.

All those animal lovers  (PETA crap like that) and those that just "Cant" eat wild game, are going to be knocking on our doors if it hits the fan. If the masses don't have grocery stores with artificially dyed food, what do they think they will do? Can you believe that only about 7% are prepared for a disaster? 7%!!! we all better be knowledgeable in how to dispose of dead bodies so we don't get dead by disease. that is alot of humans that are so far removed from reality. Hope it never comes to that, but tomorrow is no guarantee. Plus I would hate to have to put my skills into any type of real world test on a mass scale, and if those that are the most skilled (no saying me) wouldn't want to be in that position, can you imagine your average 9-5'er. but i ramble.....

For small game i use a Wensel woodsman head with the tip cut to a tanto point, they arent very sharp since i dont make them scary sharp like my deer heads( eclipse) but they are tough as nails for hitting small game. They are old heads, i would never buy new ones for this. I also stopped using blunts or judos for small game, some of them suckers are just too tough for them. they will crawl away and hide then die. So it's the BH's for me.

Foots feeling better by half, just need to get all better.
